AiER is a non-profit initiative dedicated to independent study on the moral, social, and legal implications of artificial intelligence searching for dialogue to find practical & applicable ai ethics frameworks.
To conduct and disseminate high-impact, independent research that ensures the design, deployment, and governance of artificial intelligence systems aligns with human-first values and public good. We want a future where all artificial intelligence is built on a framework of fairness, transparency, and accountability.
We propose to Design, build, verify, and govern AI systems such that: they reliably
(a) do what we intend,
(b) remain corrigible under unexpected conditions,
and (c) can be audited and controlled, while preserving beneficial innovation.
Advanced AI systems are becoming capable, general, and autonomous enough that
(a) they can produce outcomes humans didn’t intend;
(b) they can optimize in ways that are harmful while still “succeeding” on their objective;
and (c) their deployment and misuse can cascade rapidly worldwide.
This is both a technical and a governance problem with existential downside.
